What do Summer Universities represent?

The Summer Universities project was conceived in 1988 with the aim of fostering European integration. These events, which involve more than 2,000 young people each summer, are founded on cultural exchange, providing an opportunity to explore the multicultural dimension of the European continent in order to promote tolerance and encourage the adoption of a global citizenship perspective.
Participating in a Summer University means immersing yourself in magnificent places, discovering new cultures, savoring local delicacies and dancing to the rhythm of unfamiliar music. You will become friends with young people from all over Europe, forming a kind of family and learning greetings and expressions in 20 other languages. You will be overwhelmed by the spirit of belonging to AEGEE!!!

Program and Organization
Summer Universities are trips that last from 1 to 3 weeks and take place between June and September. They are organized voluntarily by students like you, thus becoming an integral part of their circle of friends and allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the host country’s culture.
Each Summer University offers a unique program based on topics such as European integration, local culture, active citizenship, learning a foreign language, education, international politics, personal growth and more. Activities range from exciting canoe rides in the Balkans to courses on Finnish culture, from hiking in Polish forests to lectures on democracy in Athens, from fun parties in a warm Spanish city to German language courses. The experience is anything but boring!

Accommodation
The type of accommodation depends on the Summer University organization and can range from hostels to campgrounds, gyms to student dorms, or even AEGEE member houses. If you are looking for a luxury vacation in a five-star resort, this is not the place. But if you want to have the best experience of your life by sharing unforgettable moments with other young Europeans, you are in the right place!

Participants
The number of participants varies from a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 50. These participants come from different AEGEE antennae scattered all over Europe and usually do not know each other before leaving for the Summer University. What characterizes these AEGEE experiences is the desire to meet new people who share the same spirit, eager to break down all forms of prejudice.
